A BR 1500V DC EM 2 locomotive used for passenger service on the Manchester Woodhead line. Based on the LNER EM1 design which dates from rom 1941, but built by BR in the 1950s. All EM2 locos were withdrawn in 1968 and some were sold to the Dutch state railway NS.I saw the real life 27000 in 1987 at the Manchester Science and Transport museum when it had just been bought back from the Dutch, and was still in NS colours.  I bought this model, by Triang,  from a school friend in 1969 and ran it for some time. The pantographs on the model are operational with a sliding contact on the roof to switch between overhead and track. Because of its age, the wheel flanges are too coarse for the track of today, and I need to get them replaced before I convert it to DCC, at which point I will add head and cab lighting.
