The last steam powered locomotive to have been built in the UK for nearly 50 years and named Evening Star. The 9F was supposed to be a freight only loco, but was quite often seen hauling passenger trains. The 9Fs were quite often seen in use on the Somerset & Dorset line because of it’s hilly profile. While I also have a 40 year old Hornby model which is tender powered, this model was specioally commissioned for the National Railway Museum from Bachmann and was part of a pair of Evening Stars. The other is the last Class 66 (66779) to have been built and is run by GBRf, and is already reserved for the National Collection. This is DCC ready. The decoder sits just behind the smokebox door.
