In 1947 THE LMS announced that they were building 2 disel powered locomotives, the first British built diesels. 10000 was delivered in December 1947 just 2 weeks before nationalisation with 10001 being completed in July 1948, but still carrying the LMS logo. 10000 was scrapped in 1963 with parts being used to keep 10001 going but that was also scrapped in 1966. They were used on both express and freight duties, sometimes working as a pair. I bought both in 2011, 10001 failing within minutes of getting it home. A replacement has since been bought.
