In September 1972, I had my first holiday on my own. This was to Kandersteg in Switzerland through the Swiss Travel Service. I’d planned my holiday for that time as I’d wanted to go to the Italian Grand Prix at Monza and The BLS (Bern Lotschberg Simplon Railway) and the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) were running special trains to the race. I also did trips to the Jungfrau, Brienzer Rothorn, and Zermatt by rail, and also walked over the Gemmi Pass.
