The third day was supposed to be a nice easy day. Just a trip to the salt mine at Hallein and then back to Salzburg. For some strange reason Elsie (The SatNav) threw a wobbly and put me on the Autobahn heading the wrong way. I spent most of the journey to the salt mine border hopping between Germany and Austria, and even part of the mine itself is in Germany.
The tour of the mine was interesting, 2 train rides, 2 slides and an underground boat trip, and showed how the mine was operated from the 1600’s right up to when the mine closed in the 1980’s
After leaving the mine, I thought I’d visit Salzburg, but, it being a Saturday, the car parks were full. So I had to give up on that idea. Distance travelled: 39 miles 63 Km Fuel; 4 Litres
We were supplied with protective clothing for our underground trip.
Sanding at the bottom of one of the slides waiting for the next lot of people to come down.
