Day 10 Sunday 15

Day 12 Tuesday 17

HOLIDAY 2019 - MONDAY 16th

From Italy, I pass into France, bypassing Turin and heading over the Col du Mont Cenis, and then the highest road pass in Europe, the Col de l’Iseran. This pass has been on my bucket list for years, but I’ve never been in the right area to do it. I finish the day at Annemasse airport having a drop of Savoy wine to wash down Filet de Perche in a Citron Sauce at Les Papille Restaurant. My mouth’s watering already. Day’s mileage 225, Total for the holiday 2733 Miles.

About Me

After a quick breakfast, I left Asti and headed out towards the Col Du Mont Cenis. Then over ther Col D’Liseran (9011 ft). Elsie decided to take me in a different direction to that planned, and I ended up going over the Col Du Petit St Bernard. Not the one with the dogs but close to it. Then through the Mont Blanc Tunnel and to Annemasse. I did have my perch and beautiful it was too. The daily mileage was 228 a total of 2658 from leaving home.

The summit of the Col Du Petit St Bernard 2188m 7178 Feet. This road was used to film the Lamborghini Miura in the original Italian Job. As you can see, I only blew the bloody roof off, not the doors.

A plate full of Perch fillets and chips at Le Papilles. It was superb as usual.

Just a few chips left. But just enough room for a sorbet.

And a Gaellic coffee. The whole meal was excellent, and I’ve never before seen a coffee where they managed to keep the Irish separate from the coffee. After a long day’s drive, it was what I needed and definitely what I had been looking forward to. The restaurant was deservedly packed while I was there, even though they don’t open until 7 PM and the service as usual was excellent. Is it going to be another couple of years before I’m back there again?
