8 – My First Christmas

So how did my Christmas go? Well, once we’d said goodbye to Uncle Kiss, the decorations and lights started to come out. I was fascinated because I had never seen them before, but at least I had Leo to explain to me what it was all about, and what was

Jess 7 - Nearly Christmas

Linda put a tree up in the front room, and I really liked the lights on it. And then it was decorated.

Our Uncle Kiss came over for the New year, and we made him welcome in our normal noisy manner. In the evening he and Linda had a Chinese. We both knew what it was because we recognised the smells. Of course we were both hoping that there were some spare ribs in there somewhere, and we were not disappointed. When Kiss and Linda had finished their meal, he opened a special bag and gave Leo a nice bone with lots of meat on it and Leo took it away to enjoy. Last time Chris cut the meat off the bone and gave it to me, but this time, he gave me the bone as well. I was in heaven, enjoying every mouth full slowly.

When midnight came, the bangs started and the houses seemed to be flashing. We both went outside, and the sky was lit up with all kinds of fireworks. We loved it for a while, but then the noise got too much for us and we had to go back indoors. We did enjoy the display though.

There were some sugar canes on it, and Leo somehow got up and took 2 of them from the tree and gave 1 to me. Of course, he had finished his quickly, but I was enjoying my one and also I seemed to be wearing a lot of it. Leo sensed that Linda was about to come in and tried to wash my coat for me, but I hadn’t finished mine so the evidence was on show. But Leo admitted that it was he that had done it.

Even then we were both in the bad books for the rest of the day, and the rest of the canes were moved higher up the tree out of even Leo’s reach.

On Christmas Eve we both had stockings put up either side of the fireplace. Leo explained that a man came down the chimney and left presents for us while we were asleep. I couldn’t see how anybody could get down the chimney, but Leo said it was magic. I wanted to see how it was done, but I was told that he would never come while we were awake, and that even though Leo knew when he was there, He couldn’t even let out a bark, otherwise nothing would be left for us.

I have to trust Leo on this as he has been so good to me over the past 3 months, so even though I was anxious to find out what Santa Claws was going to leave for me, I finally fell asleep.

In the morning there were some toys and treats for us, a new furry bone each, one in blue, and one in yellow, and a rubber squeaky bone. Leo liked his blue one, because his old one had become rather tatty.

I also had my first proper meat bone on boxing day, because Linda had done a roast leg of lamb. I did enjoy pulling the meat off it.
