 BONDALE - OPERATIONS


Swiss Chris Railways

  As can be seen on other pages, there are various traffic flows. Eventually I will be using JMRI Dispatcher to Operate the trains between stations, and to select the trucks for goods working. For time-tabling purposes I am using a variant of the British train numbering system, This is as follows.


First Digit. This is the class of train running on the layout

1) Express passenger train; nominated postal or parcels train; breakdown or overhead line equipment train going to clear the line (headcode 1Z99); traction unit going to assist a failed train (1Z99); snow plough going to clear the line (1Z99)

2) Ordinary passenger train; Officers' special train (2Z01)

3) Freight train if specially authorised; a parcels train; autumn-railhead treatment train; empty coaching stock train if specially authorised

4) Freight train which can run up to 75 mph (120 km/h)

5) Empty coaching stock train

6) Freight train which can run up to 60 mph (95 km/h)

7) Freight train which can run up to 45 mph (70 km/h)

8) Freight train which can run up to 35 mph (55 km/h)

9) Class 373 train; other passenger train if specially authorised

0) Light locomotive or locomotives


Second Digit. This is the destination of the train and is split into 2 different types, Inter-Regional and Regional


Inter-Regional codes

E: Eastern

L: Anglia

M: Midland

O: Southern

S: Scotland

V: Western

Q: Track recording trains such as the Flying Banana (Network Rail New Measurement Train).

Z: Special trains

X: Charters


Regional codes

Bondale is a joint railway operated by LNER and LMS or in a different time, Eastern and Midland regions.

A: Lancaster

B: Bonton

C: Carlisle

D: Bonton (Via Bustdale)

G: Bustham Interchange (Narrow Gauge)

H: Bustham Interchange

I: Liverpool

J: Jessham (Narrow Gauge)

K: York (Via Bustdale)

N: Bustham (Narrow Gauge)

R: Carlisle (Via Bustdale)

T: Leoton

U: Bustham

Y: York


Third and Fourth Digits.

These are the train number


Examples

2N01. This is the 05.30 passenger train from Jessham to Bustham

1Q02. This is the New Measurement Train from Carlisle to York.

8L04. A slow goods train to Leoton from York.

4B14. Fast Goods York to Bonton from York.


General Timetabling

Local passenger services start at about 05.00 and have hourly services except between 06.00 and 09.00, and also between 16.00 and 19.00 The last train departs at about 01.00.

Inter-Regional Expresses start at about 04.00 and finish at 23.00 Local Expresses start at 05.30 with hourly services until 23.00 and half hourly services during rush hours.

Freight runs 24 hours a day with local goods from 09.00 to 16.00
